Emergency Web Alert Banner Test – Monday, June 30

On Monday, June 30, 2008, there will be a test of the automated emergency alert banner for all UConn websites. The test will be conducted between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. For the first 30 minutes, a yellow warning banner will appear across the top of web pages. For the last 30 minutes, a red warning banner will appear.

The SAIT Web Team has applied the alert banner code to all Division websites. We will be thoroughly checking each Division website during the test period to ensure that the code has been implemented and works properly.

If you notice any issues with a Division website or webpage during the test period, please note the following information and contact SAIT to report a problem:

- Website Name
- Website/page URL(s)
- Brief description of issue
- A screen shot (if possible)

The automated emergency alert banner is one of the components of the University Alert Notification System. Others include email, voice mail, outdoor sirens and Code Blue Phone Kiosks. Each of these components is intended to enhance communications during an emergency situation.

Windows XP Service Pack 3

To All Computer Users in the Division of Student Affairs:

Please disregard the Thursday, June 12 email that was sent from UITS regarding Windows XP Service Pack 3. You do not need to take any action. Student Affairs Information Technology handles all workstation patching, including Service Pack 3 for Microsoft Windows XP.

SAIT Staff Retreat -- Wednesday, June 11, 2008

SAIT staff members will be off-campus for a retreat on Wednesday June 11, 2008. We will have student workers available to answer the front desk and help desk phone lines. We will be taking ticket requests, however, all tickets will be processed when we resume our regular work schedule on Thursday, June 12.

If you have an IT emergency on Wednesday, call 486-4559. Your call will be forwarded to an SAIT staff person via cell phone.

Student Affairs Network Registration (NetReg)

To All Computer Users in the Division of Student Affairs:

On June 2, 2008, UITS sent a news bulletin with instructions for pre-registering your computer during the June 2 – June 16 timeframe. You do not need to take any action. SAIT will handle network registration on behalf of all Division computer users.

If you experience any NetReg-related problems with your computer after June 16, or if you have any questions regarding NetReg please contact SAIT Support.

Swapping or Moving Offices?

Please help SAIT by contacting us to move your computers, monitors, printers, and copiers. Don't move them yourself!

Why?

  • Division computer equipment is assigned to specific employees in specific rooms. Our service and replacement procedures depend on the equipment being where our inventory database says it is.
  • Equipment moved without our knowledge is effectively lost to us and the University. It takes a lot of time to find lost equipment. Time spent doing this is time not spent helping you.
  • SAIT matches computer capability and configuration with employee needs. If you just swap offices, without moving computers, someone will likely be using a computer that’s not capable of doing their work.
  • SAIT always clears hard disks of data and software before switching computers between employees. This protects employee privacy in case there are residual data on the computer.
  • We'll make sure your computer is wired properly after it's moved.
